flourish
The majority of females struggle with mental health issues that drastically impact the way we live and breathe. Which is where Flourish was born. The product line was designed as a tool to help cope with anxiety attacks and symptoms on the go. It was a goal to create educational, exciting, and supportive products that will empower women to feel more comfortable with themselves.
Being a female is hard, especially when you have to adhere to societal expectations that tell you how you should act and behave. After completing the research, four main topics became present: Femininity, Female body image and beauty standards, Being polite, accommodating and soft, and Being nurturing and motherly.
Females were and still are being taught that to be a woman, we have to avoid conflict, be nice, suppress and silence our own needs. We also have the idea that to be beautiful, you have to have a good body. It is evident that no matter what age, all women experience body dissatisfaction and mental struggles.
For many females, we are told that motherhood and being a mother is the most important goal we should have in life. There is this expectation that a female’s main responsibility is to take care of the children and the family.

Society views women as being more emotional, sensitive and dependent in comparison to me. While these ideas are common, these expectations can be very harmful and damaging to our mental health.
It then came to my attention that maybe all of these expectations are linked with social anxiety. Humans are social animals and all want to feel accepted and a part of a group. Many would say that everyone experiences these feelings, but when it causes substantial distress that interferes with our daily lives and our functional ability, it becomes a serious problem.
The majority of females struggle with mental health difficulties that drastically impact the way we live and breathe. This is why I have decided to focus on something that helps alleviate the impact an anxiety attack has on one’s life.
Design intent: “To bring awareness and support to the impacts of societal expectations on females, and their impact on social anxieties and mental health.”
